£3,750 raised for The Beatson Cancer Charity
A fairy tale ball is one thing... The Beatson Ball is on a whole other magical level... After sitting nervously for 4 hours the author is finally called to the stage. No graceful entrance for our princess as she trips up the stairs. Then looking across the room at the 500 eager listeners - she freezes!
It seems like a lifetime as the seconds tick past, then she casts her mind back to 8 o'clock that morning. She recalls chatting with her six year son. "Why can't you eat your breakfast mummy?" he asks. "Oh I've got a big speech to say tonight and I'm a bit nervous about it" she replies. "Don't worry mummy. Just close your eyes and say inside your head - I can do this, I can do this, I can do this - and you'll be ok. That's what I do at assembly " She's suddenly back in the room again and unbelievably she is telling the story. The one story she never thought she could! The audience are transfixed as she slowly clutched her way through the words. It's over at last. She feels faint as she makes her way back to her seat and then the magic begins. For this audience is full of frogs and princes and mums and dads and brothers and sisters all touched by cancer. And this magnificent group of individuals raise £3,750 for the charity - now that's what I call a Fairytale Ball.
